Force Praised for Handling of Major Crime

Warwickshire Police has been praised in an independent inspection of it's handling of major crime.

The comprehensive review of the force's effectiveness and efficiency in dealing with homicides and other major crimes was carried out by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) earlier this year.

The inspection looked at the volume of such crimes the force handles, success in detections and trends over time, together with the underlying organisation and structures that enable the force to deliver.

Following the inspection, HMIC graded Warwickshire Police as 'meeting the standard' in the area of major crime. This is a significant achievement to reach against the standards set by the HMIC.

The report found that major crime investigation is strong in Warwickshire compared to similar forces and that the force is performing at a level above that of other similar forces for all crime types.

Responding to the report, Deputy Chief Constable Andy Parker, said: 'The importance of delivering effective protective services has grown over recent years. Warwickshire Police has recognised this, introducing a Protective Services Directorate with notable investment in its capacity and capability to deliver high quality policing services.

'The Protective Services Directorate encompasses a number of functions designed to manage risk, protect people from harm and undertake the most complex major and serious crime investigations.'

He added: 'We intend to continue the momentum already achieved in bringing about the changes required to achieve maximum protection for communities in Warwickshire.

'We welcome independent inspection of our work and will continue to work hard to improve the services we deliver.'
