A New Era of Policing in Stevenage

Officers and staff in Stevenage have a new home as phase one of building work on the Stevenage police station site has been completed.

The development forms part of the Police Authority's countywide strategy to improve public access and visibility of the police service. The Stevenage police station has doubled in size with a brand new building having been built adjoining the original police station. The new building is fully open for business following the successful migration of all resources.

The offices are the Headquarters for Hertfordshire Constabulary's Eastern Area. Chief Superintendent Al Thomas, Eastern Area Commander, said: 'This state of the art facility with a new enquiry office and increased cell capacity is designed for modern policing needs and offers excellent facilities for Stevenage.

‘Months of detailed planning went into the development of the site and the move of officers and staff into the new building. I am pleased to say this went extremely successfully with no disruption to daily business thanks to the hard work and dedication of our project team.’

The second phase of work, which involves the refurbishment of the old site, is ongoing and is expected to be completed early next year (2009). Once this work is completed, an official opening ceremony will take place.

Chair of the Hertfordshire Police Authority, Yasmin Batliwala said: ‘The completion of phase one of this development is a significant milestone in the realisation of the Authority's commitment to providing the best facilities for communities and staff. We now look forward to the completion of the project.’
