Helps Charity Build for the Future
A fundraising golf tournament organised by Northumbria
Police has helped a north east charity build for the future.
The
force's annual Charity Pro-Am golf event was this year supporting the
Grace House North East Children's Hospice Appeal, which will provide a
home from home for very sick children from across the region, from the
Borders to Teesside.
It will provide support for their siblings and parents, respite and terminal
care and a team of dedicated professionals offering the most up-to-date
medical skills and palliative care - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The generous support of all those involved in the golf day helped raise
£20,000 for the organisation towards the hospice, which has been
allocated land and is currently awaiting a date for building work to begin.
Since the Pro-Am was first held in 1986 almost £400,000 has been
raised for charities across the region and this year around 40 teams of
amateur and professional golfers took to a challenging new course at Matfen.
New Committee chairman Assistant Chief Constable Greg Vant, said: 'It
is extremely gratifying to help such a worthwhile cause get closer to
its target - which will benefit children and their families across the
region.
'I would like to thank all those who took part and dug deep to contribute
to this year's event. It is down to the continuing commitment from all
our sponsors and supporters which ensures the tournament is such a success
each year.'
Appeal founder Kathy Secker said: 'We were absolutely delighted and thrilled
to have been selected as beneficiary of this year's pro-am charity golf
tournament.
'£20,000 is a significant amount of money for our appeal and will
be set aside to fund a minibus. On behalf of everyone at Grace House
and all the families who will benefit from our hospice I would like to
say a huge thank you to Northumbria Police, all the sponsors and everyone
who took part and helped raise this fantastic amount of money.'
