PCSO Helps Raise £1,300 for Charity
An Epsom Police Community Support Officer has helped
raised at least £1,300 following a hugely successful sponsored dogs
walk, and is planning another event next year.
Epsom
Town PCSO Mags Johnson organised the popular community event, which involved
walking circuits around Court Recreation Ground in Pound Lane at the end
of June, and helped to raise at least £1,300 for four local charities.
Most of the money has now been collected and the charities which will
benefit are Epsom Primary School, the Seventh Epsom Scouts, St Barnabas
Church, Epsom, and the SeeAbility Royal School for the Blind, also in
Epsom.
A large number of people took part in the event, with a total of 32 dogs
making the most of a good walk. Each owner received a certificate for
their dog upon completion.
Animal lover Mags, who is also a volunteer at Battersea Dogs and Cats
Home, said: 'I think I know most of the dogs on my beat in Epsom, and
people love their pets, so I thought it would be a good idea for the dog
to get sponsored rather than the owner.
'It was a really successful event and a fantastic way for people to combine
walking their dogs with raising money for good causes, in fact it was
so successful that people have told me they want to do it again next year.
'Although I dont have a dog myself it was great to be able to join
in the fun and support the community in this way. I am thrilled at the
amount we have raised, and proves that when people work together, a lot
can be achieved.'
