Special Constable Magda Strycharska

Special Constable Magda Strycharska joined Bedfordshire Police a year ago - the first person from one of the new EU membership countries to join as an officer.

Magda works in London during the day organising courses and conferences for dentists, but spends her time at the weekends with the Town Centre Unit based at Greyfriars police station in Bedford. She patrols in the town centre, but also helps out with other operations large and small.

Her language and cultural skills have already proved invaluable to her regular colleagues and on Saturday Magda, like many other Special Constables, was on duty at the Bedford River Festival.

Magda has been a great ambassador for the force with the Polish community having also featured in Bedfordshire on Sunday newspaper and speaking at events attended by some of the newer Polish residents in the town.

Her story was told by Anglia Television News on Monday 14th July after a reporter and cameraman followed her work at the River Festival.
