High
Tech Crime Prevention for Stevenage Schools
A
high tech crime prevention tool - enigmaTag - is being placed in all schools
across Stevenage ahead of the summer holidays. RedWeb's enigmaTag uses
encrypted micro particles to 'mark' home owners' assets so they can be
easily identified.
PC Paul Lawlor said: Officers from the Stevenage Safer Neighbourhood
Team will be visiting schools across the town in the coming days ahead
of the summer holidays delivering bottles of enigmaTag, an advanced high-tech
burglary reduction tool.
It is a liquid which comes in a small bottle, each bottle has its
own unique code and each code will be registered on a database held by
police. The invisible liquid can be used to mark valuable items so if
they were taken and subsequently recovered they are easily identifiable
by police and can be returned.
We hope we will be able to reunite people with their stolen property
but, more importantly, we hope the scheme will act as a deterrent to opportunist
thieves. We are pleased to be able to role this project out to schools
across Stevenage. It has been trialled elsewhere in the county and has
proved effective in fighting crime.
Camps Hill Community Primary School in Chells was the first school to
receive the product, but all schools will be receiving it.
More About enigmaTag
enigmaTag uses encrypted micro particles to 'mark' home owners' assets
so they can be easily identified.
At the heart of the scheme is enigmaTag, an asset marking product based
on encrypted micro particles, which are difficult to break or replicate,
developed by RedWeb Security - a specialist in DNA-based crime prevention
solutions.
enigmaTag comes in small bottles and a tiny amount of the liquid can be
applied to valuable belongings such as computers, digital cameras, jewellery
and antiques.
They will register details of the marked property on a database - in case
of theft of loss; details of the items will be easier to report to the
police and insurance companies. It will also be easier to identify and
recover stolen property, as the descriptions, serial numbers and images
of the items are easily accessible.
The enigmaTag fluid in each bottle has its own unique code and each code
will be registered on a database held by police. Handheld scanners, owned
by the police, will enable them to identify instantaneously the code hidden
in the enigmaTag fluid and compare it with the details on the database
to identify stolen items and return them to their rightful owners. They
will also be able to investigate when items with different codes are found
in property being searched by police.
