Special Constable Receives Commendation

A Special Constable in Taunton received a District Commander's Commendation last week for his actions to save a person attempting to commit suicide.

Whilst off duty Special Constable Sean Oaten was walking through Priorswood in March 2008 when he saw a distressed woman by the railway tracks. SC Oaten dialled 999 and kept the woman safe until assistance arrived.

SC Oaten was presented with a framed certificate by Chief Superintendent Sandy Padgett on Thursday July 17th.

Chief Superintendent Padgett said: 'Special Constable Oaten really went the extra mile that day to ensure the safety of a member of the public and so he truly deserves this award.

'The District Commander's Commendation allows me to recognise the good work of Somerset West officers – and presenting this to SC Oaten was a real pleasure.'
