Collaboration
is the Key
Community
engagement is the corner stone of neighbourhood policing teams. But
communicating effectively with the community you service is the Holy
Grail.
Beatbobby.co.uk believes it could have the answer. It allows
beat officers to communicate with residents 24 hours a day either by
text or email. John Reynolds, the man behind the system, is looking
for three forces to try out the system and evaluate it (see Product
of the Week). The system is ready to buy.
Collaboration was the theme of the APPCM conference held last
week in Birmingham. With forces under so much scrutiny the message to
procurement officers was collaboration must be second nature and if
you don't collaborate, you will have to justify yourself (see News).
Congratulations to the Police Associates Register for winning
the National Outsourcing Award for Innovation (see News). This
Surrey-based firm has been working with Surrey Police on its workforce
modernisation programme and provides the force house to house enquiry
teams, as well as a CCTV viewing service that has already played a role
in a number of high profile murder cases and saved hundreds of hours
of police time. It has been a long, and often difficult, journey for
the company, but the latest accolade is well-deserved public recognition
that when done properly outsourcing has an important role to play in
a modern day police service.
A bumper crop of Jobs are advertised on this week's Securizine,
including a PSCO trainer and a number of overseas positions.

PRODUCT
OF THE WEEK
Become
the First to Trial Unique System to Communicate with the Public
Forces are being asked to volunteer to trial a unique system which
allows beat officers and residents to communicate 24-hours a day
via text message and email. The system called 'beatbobby.co.uk'
means that officers in neighbourhood policing teams can, for the
first time, send residents instant updates about local crime trends,
warn them of important issues and also seek intelligence in 'real
time' by text or email.
