All Change at the Home Office

It's all change at the Home Office following the recent deportees debacle and a planned Cabinet reshuffle. But as, Jan Berry, Federation chairman, points out (see News) the service is about to welcome the third Home Secretary in as many years at a time when it is facing monumental change.

Anti-social behaviour, which according to a survey this week is worse in Britain than anywhere in Europe (see News), Neighbourhood policing, the Bichard recommendations and, of course, police mergers which are far from a done deal (see News) are set to keep the new team busy in the months ahead.

Do you know the law? is the first in a seven week series provided by Advance Training that aims to test your knowledge of new powers contained in the new Serious and Organised Crime and Police Act and which are now included in the 2006 OSPRE part 1 syllabus.

International Police Expo was in full swing as Securizine went to press. It's the first time the exhibition has operated independently of the Chief officer's ACPO conference, which takes place later this month. Nevertheless, it attracted a range of exhibitors and delegates as well as a conference programme on the latest technological advances in policing. Whether there is room in the police calendar for two police exhibitions in the same month remains to be seen. A full report on the conference will be available in next week's issue.
