Experienced Police Motorcyclist Killed in Collision
North Wales Police officers and staff are mourning the death of a colleague who was killed in a road accident last week. PC Richard Charles Gostage died as a result of a motorcycling collision on the A5 at Cerrigydrudion.

Lawrence Corruption Claims to be Investigated
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is appealing for witnesses to help it investigate corruption allegations made in a BBC documentary. Referring to the 'The boys who killed Stephen Lawrence', shown on television last month, IPCC Deputy Chair John Wadham said: ‘This documentary made two serious allegations of corruption.

Female Officers Injured in Hammer Attack
Two female Staffordshire officers are recovering after being attacked by a man wielding a hammer. The officers were attacked as they investigated reports that a male was attempting to break into a phone box in the Meir area of Stoke-on-Trent.

Internet Sex Offenders Easier to Report
Microsoft has teamed up with the new Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre to make the reporting of online abuse easier. The move sees the addition of a new Messenger 'tab' and features the CEOP Centre's distinctive ‘report abuse’ icon which links users in the UK directly to online police services.

Black and Asian officers who previously worked for Essex Police are being sought by the force ahead of celebrations for Black History Month later this year. Deportation of Failed Asylum Seekers 'its highest rate ever'
The number of applications submitted by foreign nationals seeking asylum in the UK fell by 15% in the second quarter of 2006 compared to the first quarter, and the removals of failed asylum applicants increased by 36% in that quarter compared to the same quarter in 2005, according to the Home Office.

Federation backs Profiling to Tackle Terrorism
The Federation has called for a full debate on racial profiling to help identify terrorists. Alan Gordon, Vice Chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales said that profiling has been used to identify football hooligans for years and could be used to route out terrorists.

Police to Benefit from New Style Procurement
A new web portal, the first of its kind, is transforming the way councils share information on suppliers and contracts across the Yorkshire and the Humber region and is giving businesses instant access to a wealth of contract data. Already, ten of the 22 councils in the region are using the Supplier and Contracts Management System (SCMS) while the remaining councils are due to join in October.

Liquid Explosives Research at Centre of EU Talks
More research into the detection of liquid explosives were at the centre of talks between the Home Secretary and EU interior ministers, the Home Office has revealed. The meeting on last week's alleged terrorist activity also looked at ways to tackle the use of the internet to radicalise young people and adopt new standards of protective security at European airports.

Police Officer Dies in Motorway Collision on M6 (Wigan)
A 52 year old man who died following a traffic collision on the M6 near Wigan earlier this month has been formally identified as a serving police officer with Greater Manchester Police. PC Peter Cross of Churton Grove in Standish was a pedestrian in the northbound carriageway of the M6 when he was in collision with two cars.

Two Gloucestershire officers were injured when their vehicle left the motorway and ended up on an embankment. The police vehicle was travelling along the southbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 12 and 13 when it was involved in a single vehicle collision.

Green Light for New Police Station at Northfleet Ops Centre
